The Many Faces of Love(2006-05-27 02:10:00)

Love.. what is love? A lot of people shared their views to what Love really is, or at least what Love is in their eyes. Perhaps love is just an illusion. A strong illusion, especially for those who are searching for a purpose of life. Is love an answer? Love can be wonderful, special, complicated, a distress, a gift, a curse, a tragedy, and most of all, an experience. Love is a mysterious and a complicated force. What do a person mean when they say they love someone? Love is many different things. Each of us have our own understanding of Love is, and most of the time we base our definitions from feelings and experiences. The book defines love in many ways. "It is a strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties." It can be an affection and tenderness felt by lovers. Love is the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration. Just when we thought we finally grasp what love is, somebody asks: "Does anyone really know what "LOVE" mean? I believe I have......

A Good Heart to Lean on(2006-05-27 02:09:00)

When I was growing up, I was embarrassed to be seen with my father. He was severely crippled and very short, and when we would walk together, his hand on my arm for balance, people would stare. I would inwardly squirm at the unwanted attention. If he ever noticed or was bothered, he never let on. It was difficult to coordinate our steps —— his halting, mine impatient —— and because of that, we didn't say much as we went along. But as we started out, he always said, "You set the pace. I will try to adjust to you. " Our usual walk was to or from the subway, which was how he got to work. He went to work sick, and despite nasty weather. He almost never missed a day, and would make it to the office even if others could not. A matter of pride. When snow or ice was on the ground, it was impossible for him to walk, even with help. At such times my sisters or I would pull him through the streets of Brooklyn, NY, on a child's sleigh to the subway entrance. Once there, he woul......

Angels are Always There 天使一直在你身边(2006-05-27 02:07:00)

Surrounding you are angels, They are there to guide your path, If weakness overcomes you, They'll give you strength if you will ask. They are your protection When life seems too hard to bear, And though you feel alone at times, The angels ... they are there. Their faces may be hidden And their voices you might not hear, But they are ALWAYS with you, Through your laughter or your tears. They'll walk along beside you, They'll guide your steps along the way, They'll comfort you and hold you, Protect you night and day. They'll hold to your hand tightly, They'll not ever let it go, And they'll gently lead you forward, Taking each step very slow. For even as you slumber, They watch closely over you; They are there beside you In each and every thing you do. When life is overwhelming, And your spirit has grown tired, Know they'll be there for you, To uplift and to inspire. And when you're torn and lonely, And you see no hope a......

Weakness or Strength

Sometimes our biggest weakness can become your biggest strength. Take, for example, the story t of one 10-year-old boy who decided to study judo despite the fact that the had lost his left arm in a devastating car accident. The boy began lesson with an old Japanese judo master. The boy was dong well, so he couldn't understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move. "Mister," the boy finally said, "shouldn't I be learning more moves?" "This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you'll ever need to know," the master replied. Not quite understanding, but believing in his teacher, the boy kept training. Several months later, the master took the boy to his first tournament. To his surprise,, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent became impatient and charged; the boy deftly used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, ......

Feed Your Mind

Since the pre-historic times, man has had an urge to satisfy his needs. Be it hunger, shelter or search for a mate, he has always manipulated the circumstances to the best of his advantages. Probably this might be the reason why we human are the most developed of all living species on the earth, and probably also in the universe. As we climbed the steps of evolution with giant leaps, we somehow left behind common sense and logical thinking — we forgot that we have stopped thinking ahead of times. If you are hungry, what do you do? Grab a piece of your favorite meal and stay quiet after that? Just like your stomach, even your mind is hungry. But it never lets you know, because you keep it busy thinking about your dream lover, favorite star and many such absurd things. So it silently began to heed to your needs and never let itself grow. When mind looses its freedom to grow, creativity gets a full stop. This might be the reason why we all sometimes think "What happens next?", "Why can'......

The full pot of water makes no sound; the half-empty pot of water is noisy. A little knowledge (or learning) can be (or is) dangerous.(一知半解很危险)或者说: Still water runs deep.(静水深不可测)也可以说: He who knows the most says the least.(懂得越多的人,反而说得越少。) A truly wise person does not show off his (her) ability.(真正聪明的人,是不会显要自己的能力) ·水落石出 有人照字直译为:As the water level sinks, the stones are exposed. All secrets may eventually come to light. Eventually, every secret will be disclosed. The apples on the other side of the wall are the sweetest.(意思是:墙那边的苹果最甜)当然,如要译成: If you stand on a mountain, you feel the distant mountain seems higher than yours. The grass always looks greener on the other side.(另一边的草,看来总是绿些。) Fire is the test of gold;adversity is the test of friendship. Liquor brings out a person's true color.(烈酒能显示一个人真正的特......
